My First Earthquake

4:08 a.m....

Sonic Boom followed by the house vibrating? Man, that felt like an earthquake. Susie turns over and goes back to sleep. Forgot about it until DH mentions at 8:00 a.m. that he got up around 4:00 because he felt something. I remembered then and I asked if he thought it was an earthquake. He said he thought so but couldn't find anything online or on news. It was confirmed later. Here is a link.

Typical, huh, he feels it and gets up trying to find out what has happened. Me, I wonder for a split second and turn over and go back to sleep. It sounded like a sonic boom and then the house vibrated-like a huge tree had fallen over right next to it. It was unlike anything I have experienced. Interesting, though. Apparently we were far enough away that things didn't fall off of tables or walls. If I had been up when I felt it, I may have been more alarmed.

Well that's the news from home.

Enjoy your day!

When I was a kid we had a tremor. We were living in Philadelphia at the time, I was about 8 so this was 1972 or so. Anyway, same thing, I woke up to some shaking, my bed was on wheels and moved a bit and then I rolled over and went back to sleep. lol It felt like a big truck had driven on our street but worse. The next day on the news they interviewed people about the "earthquake" and how milk men had milk bottles break, etc. It didn't feel real, like a dream so I guess that is why I just fell back to sleep. :)

Yikes! Over the years here in central New York we've had four tremors that I remember vividly! I almost messed my drawers with the last one we had. I don't know how those folks in California deal with them.
Glad you're both okay. :> )

I live in California, near the San Andreas fault where "all" the big ones are so I hold my breath when the earth starts shaking. I keep thinking, supposedly, California is going to be swallowed up in the deep blue sea. Either way, I wouldn't know how to act in a tornado so maybe earthquakes aren't all that bad.

My first earthquake happened about the same way.

And you just rolled over and went back to sleep? You must be terribly hard to wake up? heehee Glad it was not too bad.

I did not think those happened in your neck of the woods. I am glad you are ok!

Seattle seems to be the epicentre of several earthquakes. I've felt the wave effect twice. Both times, it was over before I knew what had happened. The first time I was sitting on my couch and it felt like someone had given it a huge SHOVE from the other side. The second time, it literally felt like a wave passed under me. Very weird and drives home how small & powerless we puny humans really are...

I've felt an earthquake once, my daughter was about 3 mons old, and she & I were home alone, I was very scared. We lived on Guam at the time & I was only 18 yrs old and didn't know what to do. Just happy that you are okay & it wasn't a BIG one! Hugs***Renea

WOW-that is quite different than the earthquake I experienced a few years ago here in Arkansas. It woke me up early in the morning about 4:00. It was a deep gravely sound/feeling. Like a grinding underneath. There was no mistake what it was. I was like you, just rolled over and told my husband "there was just an earthquake" and went back to sleep.
