TA-DA!

edited to add a link to an earlier post...

I told DH I wouldn't say any more than that, but he knew that was not possible. That's probably why he shook his head and laughed. Anyway here is the finished sculpture.

As I said in an earlier post, I am not that into dragons. My dear friend is though and has a collection, so I wanted to do my best for that reason. I started this project May 1st and finished it June 14th. I started out sculpting the head from Creative Paperclay and after refining the head, I started on the body. I used craft wire and wrapped it in masking tape and added the clay to that, letting it dry in layers and building from there.

After it was completed, I was going to paint it in what I thought was the traditional dragon color, green, but he looked too much like a frog. After several false starts, I decided he needed to be one color, so I spray painted him with 18K gold plate paint and called it complete.

DH suggested white for the claws and horns and helped me with the stand. The stand is an inexpensive wooden plaque that I got from Michael's. I base coated it in black and faux finished with copper and gold metallic paints. The sculpture is supported by a dowel attached in his tummy and glued into a hole in the base. This hole was very professionally drilled by my carpenter hubby with a butterfly bit. Fancy, huh? Hope you like it.

Well, that's it for today. Enjoy the rest of the weekend and get ready for Monday!

You did a great job with the dragon! Very well done and I think your choice of gold was a good one! She's gonna love it, Susan. (I don't know what happened to the comment I just left... so I've decided to try again. Sorry if you end up with 2 from me!)

Hi, that dragon looks absolutely super - real professional job. I love it in gold and can imagine that green would indeed have looked like a frog. Your dragon is too regal to be green :-)

Even though your friend has a collection, does that mean you are giving it away......? Wasn't sure but Annette's comment said "she's gonna love it".

Well, whether you keep it or give it away, it will be a piece to be proud of in its end home.

Bye for now, Liska x

Like it better than green.
I guess Dragons can be any colour.
Do you mind if I put a pic on my blog, as I have a doll group friend Rita of dollyhugs blog, makes and loves them and even sells some.
Great effort. maybe we will like dragon a bit more now.
Reminds me of when I did a blackspidr for a witch doll I made. I nearly scared myself silly makin it

Your Dragon is Fabulous! How great of you to step out of your comfort zone and try a little sculpting. (Something I should do myself.)

That is so great your husband got involved with the project! It shows he appreciates what you are doing with your art.

Your friend will love her new Dragon Friend! Great job!

Hi Susan that's great that I inspired someone with an idea. I am so pleased that you get so much out of reading my posts. Makes me feel the world is a very small place when we can come together like this and understand each other so well. Thought I might have been carrying on a bit much about my books etc , but thats me. just love books. I will be waiting impatiently to read your next post.
Wiil be putting your dragon in my blog soon.
Love
XXX Elizabeth.
