It would not peel. I had to pick the shell off tiny piece, by tiny piece. The picture doesn't do it justice. If it hadn't been so frustrating, it would have been funny. The only thing I can think of is this one particular egg was perhaps...no, that doesn't make sense. Maybe it's because it was... man, I am drawing a blank here. All the other shells slid right off, no problem. Have you ever had this happen?

The fresher the egg, the harder it is to peel. An egg right out of the hen has to stand for at least a week before you can reasonably hard-boil it; if the egg starts to stand up in water (but doesn't float!), it'll peel wonderfully. It's likely the "bad" egg was too fresh compared to the other ones; most grocery store eggs are many weeks old by the time you get your hands on them, but not always.
That happens to me every egg on easter and now Jon's reply makes me think it is because I wait until the last minute to buy the eggs like Saturday night. Maybe I need to get them a week in advance. I am interested in hearing more on this subject.
I saw a news article back in MN a few years ago that some places will resell expired eggs since they are in fact good long after the expiration date. They just add them to the mix so you get a difference in egg ages per carton. I don't know if places still do that but that might explain it! (I tried to find a link about this but failed... I know I saw it on the news, though!)
I used to have that happen until for some unknown reason, I bought an egg appliance from Target. I love that thing. I was a vegetarian for fifteen years, but I could not give up the egg! What would potato salad be without the egg! I love all the jewelry your doing and really want to try those markers. It really does give the look of glass. The jacket is going to be great!

I've had my share of fights with eggs, it can be very frustrating. We recently bought an egg cooker by Cuisinart and I love it. It only cooks seven eggs but they peel great. I love how you have your hand in so many projects, fun I bet. You seem so upbeat and happy, good for you. See you soon
