I just finished watching Goonies, and I had forgotten how much I really love that crazy, silly movie. I love all the characters. Everybody has a favorite scene, mine being at the last of the movie when Chunk "adopts" Sloth.
I think sometimes we all have had periods of time when we felt like Goonies, maybe sometimes we still do. For me, as a child, being a Goonie was being the "not so trim" little girl, that wanted adventure and was only able to experience it in the children's books I read constantly. I read several books about pirates and insisted that my uncle buy me a black eye-patch. Somewhere he found one and yes, I wore it.
In a way, being a Goonie is a great thing. It means that you know that you are different from the other kids. That you march to a different drummer. You don't have to be plump or goofy looking to be a Goonie. Look at Cyndi Lauper. She did the theme song "Goonies R Good Enough", along with an elaborate music video. I remember reading that she had always felt like a Goonie and strongly related to the movie for that reason.
I am a longtime Cyndi fan. I went to see her in concert in 1984 and she was wonderful. She still is. Grew up to be a very beautiful, very classy Goonie.
I don't know about you, but the hubby and I are still not like the other kids, and we are quite happy about it.

Love the Goonies. My favorite character is Data. His gadgets, his accent, he was sweet.
I also watched the Goonies earlier today with my son. He's 16 now and has watched it many times. I did a google search and found a group photo of them -- they're probably in their mid-twenties. I work in a library and people still come in occasionally to request The Goonies movie. I think there's a "little goonie" inside everyone.
I am a Cyndi fan too! I just saw a picture of Chunk I think he is about 35 years old, and he looks pretty good, I must say. To me anyway. I was a goonie too. I was at a b-day party in 4th grade where all the girls were invited to sleep over, and right before we all fell asleep the B-day girl announced, "By the way, I only invited Kristen because my mother made me invite everyone!" It was a long night. I was super smart and my mother had to tell everyone I was a certified genius. I had a really high IQ. When you have the shy personality I had, IQ doesn't mean squat. My kids watched this movie at least 100 times when they were little. So, that means I saw it quite a bit too. I was always a tom-boy and loved venturing through the woods at my grandparents house. One of my favorite scenes is where Brand consoles Mikey on the front porch after the real estate people leave. BTW-after I discovered reading...I loved the Boxcar Children series.
I love Goonies! If I need a guaranteed smile, I watch that flick.
